Oculus Quest 2 Vs Rift S Specs
First off, it is important to note that the Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone VR system and utilises a Snapdragon 865 processor to do so, whereas the Oculus Rift S requires pairing with a gaming PC to work.
However, the Oculus Quest 2 can also be paired with any of the best gaming PCs in order to access a wider range of games and work in a similar way to the Rift S through the Oculus Link cable.
In terms of resolution, the Rift S offers 1280 x 1440 pixels per eye and an 80Hz refresh rate, while the Quest 2 provides 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye and a 90Hz refresh rate. Do note also that the Quest 2 has been upgraded to offer 120Hz refresh rate with a recent software update.
Oculus Quest 2 Vs Rift S Price
The Oculus Quest 2 is available for $299 / £299 with 128GB of storage or for $100 / £100 more you can get the 256GB version.
Meanwhile, the Rift S comes in at considerably more, usually found for over 500 pounds or dollars.
This is due to the fact that Oculus is phasing out the Rift S line and focusing solely on Quest, meaning it is no longer available from brand new from Oculus themselves.
Oculus Quest 2 Vs Rift S Games
Both devices are compatible with PCs meaning that most SteamVR games should work on these devices, but it can be a little fiddly to get the Quest 2 set up as a tethered VR headset.
Each device will also be able to access the Oculus game store, so there shouldn't be any difference in access to games here.
However, because Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone VR system, it can access the Oculus game library and even store games on the device itself rather than needing to connect to a PC, which can be extremely useful when wanting to jump straight into the action.

Which VR Headset Should You Go For?
Ultimately this comes down to personal preference, however, while both VR headsets should provide the immersive experience you're looking for, we'd say the Quest 2 has the edge over the Rift S.
Thanks to it being a standalone VR console system, it allows for more freedom and doesn't require you to have already purchased a gaming PC.
Of course, if you already have a gaming PC, we think the Rift S could still be a solid option.
However, the Quest 2 also offers slightly higher specs than the Rift S, and at less expense which is a big bonus in our eyes.
