Overwatch 2 Season 4 is just around the corner, and there is plenty of new content to be excited about. We are getting a new support hero, a new Battle Pass, changes to rank decay, new events, and more.

The new season is introducing Lifeweaver as the game’s latest support hero and players will be able to unlock him via the new Battle Pass. He can not only heal allies but also set up clutch plays with his abilities.

Overwatch 2 Season 4 - Lifeweaver abilities and ultimate

Here is a breakdown of all of Lifeweaver’s abilities.

Healing Blossom (Primary Fire)

This is Lifeweaver’s first primary fire. You can tap the primary fire button to heal allies or hold the key to charge up more healing before sending your healing flowers to your allies. The more you charge the primary fire, the higher the healing output is.

Thorn Volley (Alternate Primary Fire)

His alternate primary fire damages enemies with biolight thorns. It deals decent damage and is meant to be used defensively, as you have to switch between your firing modes using the weapon swap key, which can hurt your healing uptime.

Petal Platform (Secondary Fire)

Lifeweaver’s Secondary Fire allows you to drop a pod that blooms into a flower-like platform. Players can stand on it and be elevated and anyone who uses it can stay on top of the structure for a fixed duration.

The ability can synergise well with ultimates like Cassidy’s High Noon and Soldier: 76’s Tactical Visor. The platform can be destroyed by enemies and its HP is indicated on your HUD at all times when it is active.

Rejuvenating Dash (Ability 1)

Rejuvenating Dash is a quick movement ability similar to Genji’s Dash. You also get a small healing burst, which can help keep you alive. It is the only defensive ability Lifeweaver has access to so you need to be careful when using it.

Life Grip (Ability 2)

Life Grip is similar to Roadhog’s Chain Hook but it allows you to pull teammates towards you. When an ally is within the grip, they are invulnerable to all damage, which can help you save your teammates in sticky situations.

It is the most interesting aspect of Lifeweaver’s kit but players need to use it very carefully. Using it at the wrong time can prevent allies from securing crucial kills or completely miss their ultimate. The ability has left players concerned about Lifeweaver's “trolling” in ranked games.

Tree of Life (Ultimate)

Liveweaver places down a large biolight tree that periodically lets out healing pulses. The tree can also be used as a cover. Unlike Baptiste’s Amplification Matrix, you cannot shoot through the Tree of Life, but enemies can’t harm you either.

During our playtesting, we found that the ability charges very quickly and you should be able to get it much quicker than some of the other support Ultimates in the game like Sound Barrier or Transcendence. The Tree can be destroyed and its current HP bar is always displayed on your HUD, so make sure you keep an eye out for enemy fire when the tree is about to break.

Lifeweaver’s kit is focused on his healing and his offensive capabilities are decent, but not on par with characters like Zenyatta or Kiriko. He should be a fun support to play and you should unlock him when Season 4 drops.

Overwatch 2 Season 4 Ranked changes

The biggest change coming to Overwatch 2 is the removal of rank decay. Players would drop in rank after every seasonal reset, and players were unhappy about being forced to grind multiple ranks just to get back to their original rank. With the introduction of Season 4, Overwatch 2 is doing away with rank decay altogether.

When the new season launches, Blizzard will adjust the ranks of all players who were affected by rank decay in recent seasons. So if you have not been playing in recent seasons, you should find yourself close to your original rank when Season 4 drops.

We are also getting back the screen that showed the average rank of each team. Unfortunately, the rank of both teams in a game will be visible only after a match ends. The new feature should help you estimate your current rank between each rank update.
