Player building their base with their Pals

Your base is your home and the heart of your adventure in Palworld. You start out with a small campfire near a Palbox and gradually expand all the way up to an industrialised plant complete with its own hot springs and production lines. On the way, you’ll have to learn various base-building basics and techniques.

Base building is a fun endeavour that lets you flex your creativity and create your own dream base in Palword. Later on in the game, you can expand to multiple bases. This is why it’s important to know the basics of how to set up a functional base in Palworld. Today, we’ll be explaining all the base-building basics for Palworld.

Palworld base-building explained

To begin building your base, you need to unlock the wooden base set from the Technology menu and eventually upgrade and unlock more structures. Once you unlock these structures, you need to build them using the build menu.

You’ll need the required materials as well as land space so that you can build the structure. Open the build menu and place your required structure when it glows blue. If you’re creating a lot of the same thing, we suggest using the continuous building button, as it saves time.

Some rules to keep in mind are that most wooden structures require a wooden foundation or walls to build on top of. Furthermore, you can’t keep adding vertical sections to your base without the necessary support structures underneath.

Base-building tips in Palworld

Once you've built the wooden foundation, you've technically built a base. So now, we'll tell you how to take your base to the next level.

Build your house

The first thing you’ll need when you build your base is a house or room to centre all your efforts around. While it’s not a necessity, you can’t build a bed without it, and it helps keep things organised and centred as you expand around it.

An advantage of a home-like structure is also the verticality it can provide once you create multiple floors connected by stairs. You can have a different floor for production benches, a different room for refining and so on.

Create a food supply

Food production is very important for any base as your Pals will go hungry and stop working without it.

The best production you can use is by setting up the Berry Fields in every base you make. Pair this with a feed box and Pals that can automatically plant, water, harvest and transport the berries, and your Pals will never go hungry again.

Build beds and chests

Your pals will all need beds, or they will refuse to work. Never let a base have more Pals than it has Pal beds.

Chests are also important as they allow you to organise the dozens of items that you will be managing as you unlock more and more resources.

Understand Palworld jobs

As we mentioned, in the process of creating a food supply above, you also need to understand all the other jobs that need to be performed at your base.

Try to assign your Pals intelligently while keeping their base skills in mind with reference to the jobs your base needs. For example, don’t assign all of them for logging purposes when you need Pals who can mine. Or don’t assign Pals who make medicine while you’re not producing any.

Don't hesitate to deconstruct

Unfortunately, If you mess up your structure placements, you can’t simply move them. However, you do get 100% of the resources for a structure back if you choose to destroy it. Palworld lets you enter deconstruct mode to pull apart your current structures. Open the build menu and press the deconstruct button at the bottom of the screen to enter deconstruct mode.

Have a purpose for each base

If you’re building multiple bases, it’s best to diversify them, having each serve a specific purpose. While your first base can be generic and contain a little bit of everything, your future bases should be different.

For example, one of the major roadblocks to your progress in Palworld will be the acquisition of large amounts of Ore. Build your second base with mining Pals near a lot of Ore supply to deal with this issue. As you expand further, keep building bases with your current needs in mind, and you’ll make a lot of progress quickly. Then, once you can afford to, you can even build bases purely for aesthetics.

That’s all you need to know about the basics of base building, with the considerations to keep in mind explained. Now that you know how to build bases, check out our complete list of Pals in the game.
