Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has gotten a number of mods recently, with a lot of them being very silly. We’ve already seen fans make Mario do “The Griddy” and now this mod has your companion Goombella say “Smash” or “Pass” when using her field ability.
Created by GetLucky on Twitter, this mod turns Goombella’s ability to identify every NPC in the game and turns it into her saying “Smash” or “Pass.” Goombella’s ability was, admittedly, not very useful in the RPG, but this does make it hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
For those wondering why this Paper Mario mod is funny, Smash means you want to sleep with someone while Pass means you wouldn’t touch them at all. This slang is obviously something that got popular with online culture, especially with dating apps becoming the norm. It can be lame or offensive in real life, but in an RPG starring Nintendo icon Mario, the slang is infinitely more amusing.
Those fans who might be worried about Goombella’s battle abilities need not be, as her Tattle skill works just fine. Goombella’s Tattle will show how much HP your enemy has, which is pretty useful in the game’s early hours. Luckily, this hasn’t been changed to Goombella saying she will Smash your opponent in a nasty way, so don’t worry.
It’s a shame that fans with a Nintendo Switch can’t access these Paper Mario mods, not with an official copy of the game anyway. Mods like these are always really amusing and aren’t going to break the RPG in any way. Hopefully, the folks at Nintendo will leave these mods alone, though we doubt that since they took that Griddy mod away.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is now available on Nintendo Switch, so fans who missed out on the Gamecube original can get it now. We gave the game a 9 out of 10 for being an incredibly creative RPG.
