PlayStation 5 Console Revealed: Two Consoles, Digital Version, Accessories, Peripherals And More Revealed

Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 at the end of their Future of Gaming show.

We already knew a lot about the technical specs, but lots of slow panning shots have now given us every angle of the box that'll carry all these SSDs and teraflops.

We've also got the lowdown on all the new accessories and peripherals - after all, these will affect your everyday gaming!

Release Date

The PS5 will be coming "later this year". We expect it to release just in time for Christmas!

Editions

There will be two editions of the PS5: the regular console with a disc drive and the Digital Edition without.

Specs

  • 8 core AMD Zen 2-based CPU (3.5GHz).
  • 16GB of GDDR6 memory.
  • Custom RDNA 2 AMD GPU (that's over 10 Teraflops of processing power right there).
  • An incredible SSD that will eliminate loading times.
  • Ray-tracing

Accessories

As well as the sleek design (which may or may not remind us of a Wi-Fi router), the PS5 has a whole host of accessories and peripherals already announced.

Here's the juicy stuff:

  • PULSE 3D wireless headset: this comes with 3D audio support (hence the name) and two noise-cancelling mics.
  • HD Camera: the PS5 is aiming to corner the streaming market with two (yes, TWO) 1080p lenses. Get ready to share your biggest wins and epic fails!
  • Media Remote: not much use for playing games, but the remote will make browsing Netflix and other streaming services a lot easier.
  • DualSense Charging Station: this one is an obvious one, but it's nice of Sony to announce it anyway. Keep your DualSense Wireless controllers charged with, you guessed it, a charging station. It handily fits two controllers.
  • DualSense controller: boasting Haptic Feedback to simulate real-life touches, and Adaptive Triggers to better simulate a range of actions, the PS5's controllers will be game-changing. A "Create" button to share content, audio jack and built-in mic complete the DualSense.
