How does Pokémon GO Stardust work?

Stardust is essentially the secret sauce that you can use to enhance the CP or Combat Power of your Pokémon, which contributes to their overall strength in battles. If you're all about having top-notch Pokémon that you can compete with in gym and raid battles, Stardust is your go-to for beefing up your Pokémon's abilities and boosting their stats.

Unlike Candy, which needs to be used for the specific Pokémon dropping it, Stardust can be used for any Pokémon in your collection. There are several ways to collect Stardust, however it cannot be purchased.

The primary method of acquiring it is by capturing Pokémon during your journey. Each Pokémon you catch yields Stardust, much like the associated Candy. The stardust you receive upon catching a Pokémon depends on its evolutionary stage. You'll get 100 for the initial evolution, 300 for the second, and a whopping 500 for the third.

You'll also get them from hatching and feeding Pokemon, as well as daily and weekly bonuses. Completing raid battles and defeating Team GO Rocket members will fetch you some Stardust. Additionally, you can get Stardust from gyms. If you have successfully claimed a gym and stationed a Pokémon there, you'll get a daily supply of Stardust as long as your Pokémon remains undefeated.

To use Stardust, you'll need to navigate to the Pokémon menu and select the Pokémon you wish to strengthen. Look for the "Power Up" button, which tells you the amount of Stardust required to increase its combat power and other attributes. This cost varies for each Pokémon.

It's essential to note that powering up a Pokémon involves more than just Stardust—you also need at least one piece of Candy. As Candy is particularly valuable for evolving Pokémon, make sure to check out how much Candy you have in your inventory before deciding to power up a Pokémon that you also intend to evolve.

With your Pokémon now bolstered in strength with Stardust, you can embark on gym battles! Of course, you'll need to join a team before venturing into the competitive world of gyms in Pokémon GO.
