November 17, 2022: We've added a little more context to Vivillon patterns in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Looking to get Vivillon patterns in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? The grind continues. This pokemon is known for having some unique patterns on its wings, which made it an immediate hit for collectors and completionists. And it's back at it again.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet takes place in the Paleda region, and as such, we're going to be getting quite a few new Pokemon, and in typical Pokemon fashion a bunch of returning ones as well.

Looking for more? Here's how to get Charmander, Scorbunny, Grookey, Oshawott, and Rowlet in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. If you want something a little different, here's how Pokemon Scarlet and Violet breeding works.

How to get Vivillon patterns in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Vivillon is a Pokemon that first appeared in generation VI in X and Y. In those games, Vivillon had 20 total patterns, 18 of which were geographically unique. In order to collect all of them, you would have get one from a player in each region, usually via wonder trade.

This time around, things are shaping up to be a bit different. While there isn't any confirmed way to get all of Vivillon's patterns, we have some ideas.

Thanks to Yoriden on Twitter, we have some insights on how Vivillon's forms could be handled.

We do know that there's a link between Pokemon GO and Scarlet and Violet slated to be released in Spring 2023. Given that the Roaming form of Gimmighoul is being handled through Pokemon GO and it's Postcard system, something similar could be happening with Vivillon.

One idea is that if you're able to get different region postcards and catch the different forms in Pokemon GO, that those forms could become available to catch in Scarlet and Violet if you linked your accounts.

It also could be possible that Vivillon's forms will function just as in X and Y, and you'll have to trade the patterns to other players via the new Special Trade system.

Again, this hasn't been confirmed, it's just a theory. But be sure to check back as we'll update you with the exact method once more information is available and has been tested.

The Pokeball and Fancy patterns are the 19th and 20th patterns, and were event exclusive patterns. We aren't sure whether or not these will be available in the game at base, or if they will also be event exclusives once again.

There's the chance there could only be one Vivillon pattern native to Paldea, opening up the idea that Pokemon GO will be the only way to achieve a living dex in the game.
