Pokémon TCG Pocket Gets a Whole Company Dedicated to its Existence

The Pokémon Company (TPC) and developer DeNA are going all-in on Pokémon TCG Pocket, with the two making a new subsidiary just to work on this game. It goes to show that these companies are going to take development on this new card game seriously, given the apps massive potential.

DeNA released a statement (via Dot eSports), confirming that they teamed up with TPC to form a new subsidiary called Pokémon Card D Studio Co. While DeNA will still take a majority of the ownership, there’s no denying that this is going to be a major joint effort from both companies.

Mobile card games like Marvel Snap have had a huge impact on the games industry, which is why Pokémon TCG Pocket has so much potential. These mobile titles can be really addictive, let alone for a franchise like Pokémon, so it’s easy to see why both companies would pour so much money into it. Hopefully, everything goes well during development and this game lives up to everyone’s expectations, because an app like this could be a huge hit.

Pocket is expected to replace TCG Live as the hobby’s premiere app, with players being able to battle and trade virtual cards. Unveiled during the most recent Pokémon Presents, fans were pleasantly surprised to see this app announced, as everything about the game seems sleek or cool. Only time will tell if this is going to make a major impact like other Pokémon projects, but it should be an interesting experience.

There were other noteworthy announcements during the most recent Pokémon Presents, including Pokémon Legends Z-A. It looks like this game is going to be the company’s farewell to the current Switch model, with many of us expecting to see the Switch 2 soon.
