Following in the steps of Universal’s Super Nintendo Land theme park, The Pokémon Company is opening its first ever theme park based on the biggest IP of all time: PokéPark Kanto.
Partnering with Yomiuri Land Co. and The Yomiuri Shimbun, the new Pokémon theme park will be part of the pre-existing Yomiuriuland amusement park in Kawasaki, Japan. This means that PokéPark Kanto exists in the real-life version of the Kanto region.
Details surrounding the attractions of the upcoming Pokémon theme park are quite scarce. However, it seems that, instead of providing loads of high-octane rides, the theme park will seemingly focus on the franchise’s theme of nature.
In its official announcement, PokéPark Kanto is described as “a theme park where visitors can enjoy the Pokémon experience in a lush natural environment through various events.
This also matches previous partnerships between The Pokémon Company and Yomiuriuland. Previously, the two collaborated on a limited time Pokémon Wonder segment in 2021 that allowed players to explore numerous nature trails and discover the series’ iconic creatures across the landscape.
While the new PokéPark Kanto doesn’t appear to be anywhere near as grandiose as Universal’s Super Nintendo Land, it does sound like it’ll be a fun outdoors activity for fans of the monster catching franchise. With some great animatronics work, the theme park could be something truly special.
There’s currently no launch date for the official opening of the new Pokémon theme park. However, considering its smaller scale, it could launch in the next couple of years.
The last Pokémon game to be released was the controversial Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. New games in the series are currently in development, but may not release until the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.
