Ubisoft’s troubled Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is facing another setback, with the publisher’s Toronto studio now helping with development. This game was revealed in 2020 and was supposed to come out sooner, but the project is now in development limbo after fans were critical of its look.
On Twitter, the official Ubisoft Toronto studio announced that they’re helping with development, claiming excitement for this long-delayed project. Nothing new about the game has been shown, so it looks like fans can expect something completely different when it’s re-revealed.
The Toronto-based development team is very busy, as they’re also working on a new Splinter Cell game in addition to this Prince of Persia: Remake. Fans are hoping that this is just for the finishing touches to this game, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being completely different.
Details on this remake have been slim since its reveal, likely due to the negative fan reaction that came from the trailer. Many fans felt that the visuals were lacking for a current-gen title, which is probably what led to Ubisoft revamping this project. Only time will tell if fans and critics will be pleased with the remake and that time keeps extending, given all these development hurdles.
While Ubisoft still doesn’t know what to do with their Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, the company has at least made more games using this IP. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown came out earlier this year and immediately gained critical acclaim, giving fans a masterful Metroidvania experience. The Rogue Prince of Persia is still in Early Access, but fans are enjoying how Evil Empire are handling the IP after their stellar work on Dead Cells.
No release date for the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has been revealed, so fans will have to wait for Ubisoft to offer some positive news. In the meantime, fans can enjoy The Lost Crown on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
