Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are both expected this year, with both consoles targeting a 4K resolution and 60 FPS - or so we thought.
A new Digital Foundry video offered a lengthy discussion about the PlayStation 5's launch lineup, and it looks as though many of the games shown in the console's full reveal are actually targeting 30 FPS.
PlayStation 5 Targeting 30 FPS?
You can check out the full video below, with each game's expected frame rates being explained by the knowledgeable team.
Digital Foundry noted that Ratchet And Clank, Stray, Returnal and Kena: Bridge of Spirits are likely to be 30 FPS titles, while Gran Turismo 7, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Godfall and Astro's Playroom are slated to offer 60 FPS.
Destruction Allstars, Oddworld: Soulstorm and Horizon: Forbidden West are expected to be 30 FPS, while the much-anticipated Demon's Souls remake is likely to offer a 30 FPS baseline and a 60 FPS option.
Finally, the team speculated that Resident Evil: Village is likely to be playable in 60 FPS.
Interestingly, the team confirmed that much of the footage shown is in native 4K, as opposed to the PS4 Pro's checkerboarding.
Xbox Series X is expected to target 60 FPS or 120 FPS. Digital Foundry's editor Richard Leadbetter explained "The emphasis on extreme detail also highlights the priorities of most of the developers showcased here — while Microsoft is talking about 4K 60 FPS and even 120 FPS frame rates as the design targets for its hardware, the vast majority of the titles in yesterday's PS5 presentation were concentrating on 30 FPS instead."
