Here are just a few of the new tricks the PS5 has up its sleeve, according to the PlayStation Blog.
"We believe your play time is valuable and should be meaningful, and all the new features we’re delivering are inspired by that concept and vision. The new UX introduces several new features designed to make your gaming experiences more fun, engaging, personalized and social."
A new feature called Activities "are displayed via on-screen cards in the Control Center, which enables you to discover new gameplay opportunities, go back to things you missed, jump directly into levels or challenges you want to play, and much more."
"Some Activity cards can be put in picture-in-picture mode, so you can view them without having to leave the game."
"Navigating the interface, switching between games, and hopping into online matches occurs quickly, as we rebuilt the entire software stack from the console to the network to bring you a truly next-generation experience. We believe the less time you spend waiting to interact with the system, the more time you will have to spend playing games."
That picture-in-picture functionality allows players to watch friends play games via Share Screen, even PS4 titles, and even use walkthroughs to help players find things they may have missed.
Players can also hop straight into matches with friends
As for the "Create" button, that works in much the same way as the current Share button does.
The PS5 is always recording recent gameplay (up to 4K), and you can frame a screenshot using the system UI or an in-game photo mode.
Those images can be shared alongside text recorded from voice dictation, and if the image or video has any potential to spoil part of the game, it'll be flagged as such.
The PS5 home screen will bring everything together, including an Explore tab that keeps players informed with games followed and PlayStation, although it's still being tested at present.
The PlayStation Store is no longer a standalone app, either, and is baked right into the system.
