Yes, the PlayStation Network (PSN) services are down. On February 7, PSN suffered a massive outage that, at the time of writing, continues well into February 8.

Earlier on February 7, users trying to log in to various PSN services had a prompt that stated the servers were down due to maintenance. I got hit with the notice myself when trying to boot up Street Fighter 6 to enjoy some Mai Shiranui gameplay.

Is PSN Down?

According to the PSN Service Status page, every single service is experiencing issues at the moment. These are:

  • Account Management: It affects the ability to sign-in to PSN
  • Gaming and social: Online play and, in some cases, launching games at all is not possible
  • PlayStation Video
  • PlayStation Store
  • PlayStation Direct

The issue started on February 7 at 6:00 PM ET and has continued past midnight into the early hours of February 8.

No Mai Shiranui for me today

PlayStation stated via the Ask PlayStation X (formerly Twitter) account that they are "aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN," and have vowed to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible.

It is a tough situation, especially considering the timing of it all. It happened on a Friday night when millions of users were getting ready to enjoy their weekend with some gaming. If you're a Destiny 2 player on PlayStation, for example, you probably missed the first day of the new Episode: Heresy dungeon: Sundered Doctrine.

Perhaps you were waiting all day to join up with the squad on Marvel Rivals. Maybe the new leaks got you excited for upcoming characters to NetEase's hero shooter.

Whatever the case may be for you, it's disappointing that a service used by millions of users like PSN has been down for so many hours and counting. PlayStation has yet to confirm whether there will be any form of compensation for players after this extended period without PSN is over.
