343 Industries has unveiled where a majority of the players are distributed, with a Halo Waypoint blog post showcasing the proportion of players in each of the three ranked playlists.

The data for the three different playlists can be seen below:

The Competitive Skill Rank (CSR) for Open Queues is more skewed towards Platinum 1, while Solo/Duo is towards Onyx's side. There's also a peak on every chart at Diamond 1, as this is the highest rank possible after completing qualifying matches of 10:
A decent sized “spike” at Diamond 1. This exists because Diamond 1 is the highest rank we’ll grant to a player immediately after completing their 10 qualifying matches. So the “extra” players in Diamond 1 are players who would add to the high Diamond and Onyx columns if they continued to play more ranked and work their way up through the higher levels of the CSR system.
343 Industries is also working on adjusting the CSR algorithm to make it more accurate and closer to player medians. More updates are also being planned in the future, including additions of co-op multiplayer and a Forge mode.
