Xenoblade Chronicles 3 rumors have swirled for months now, and it turns out they were true after all. Nintendo unveiled a first look at Monolith Soft’s latest during the February Nintendo Direct and announced that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will release in fall 2022.

It’s a direct sequel to both the original Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, tying both stories together and telling a brand-new story of life, sacrifice, and the struggle to find peace in a hostile world. Releasing in September 2022, Nintendo hasn’t announced a more specific date.

Nintendo Reveals Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Set for Release This Fall

Nintendo finally unveiled Xenoblade Chronicles 3 with a lengthy new trailer, which you can check out below. Here’s how Nintendo described it:

A vast world awaits in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the next game in the acclaimed RPG series from developer MONOLITHSOFT. Players will step into the roles of protagonists Noah and Mio amid turmoil between the hostile nations of Keves and Agnus. Six characters hailing from those nations will take part in a grand tale with “life” as its central theme. Explore a new world that will connect the futures of both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

We see that combination already, with the Mechon from Xenoblade one combined with Alrest’s floating behemoth continents and cat-eared denizens including one who looks suspiciously like Nia from Xenoblade 2.

We don't yet know if Xenoblade Chronicles 3 includes gacha, either. Notably absent from the trailer are the Blades, sentient weapons that were the basis of Xenoblade 2’s gacha system. It seems the game focuses on the core cast of six playable characters instead, though time - and hopefully another trailer or two in the coming months - will tell.
