Following confirmation of Activision revealing that Call of Duty 2022 is a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare, the publisher has unveiled the key artwork for Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward's upcoming release.
While plenty of leaks circulating the game continue to do the rounds, a lack of official information on the game left many wondering what the developer has in store.
In addition to revealing a reunion of Task Force 141 with some epic artwork, Activision also shares the Modern Warfare 2 release date which is arriving a little earlier than expected.
Modern Warfare 2 Release Date
Alongside unveiling the key artwork showcasing legendary Modern Warfare 2 character Simon "Ghost" Riley, the very end of the trailer confirms Modern Warfare 2 will launch on October 28, 2022. In comparison to the November launch of Vanguard, it's slightly earlier than usual but there's good reasoning behind the October release.
Activision claims poor Vanguard sales are a factor in Call of Duty's playerbase decreasing by 50 million over the last 12 months. The low interest in the came comes from a return to a World War II setting following the relatively successful cycle of Black Ops Cold War.
Similarly, the Modern Warfare 2 release date isn't far from when 2019's Modern Warfare made its debut. The prequel to 2022's release launched on October 25, 2019.
Modern Warfare 2 Reveal Date
Alongside the artwork and final release date, a blue shipping container within the trailer reads "J.8.22," potentially teasing a full reveal date showcasing various features within the game.
Based on the response of the community, the Modern Warfare 2 hype train has officially left the station. Let's hope the game lives up to expectations.
