Rocket League Free-To-Play Launches September 23, Here's Everything Coming

Rocket League is going free-to-play on September 23, developer Psyonix has confirmed.

Following a leak from the Nintendo Eshop that we reported on earlier today, the date has now been confirmed.

Here's all we know.

Rocket League Free-To-Play Date Revealed

As of tomorrow, September 16, an update will allow players to link existing platforms to their Epic Games account to prepare for cross-platform progression.

As part of that update, the legacy rewards for existing players will also roll out, as well as support for the Epic Games Store's "Support-A-Creator" function on all Rocket League creators.

As revealed by a new blog post, the following changes are also coming in the September 16 update:

  • New Quick Chats
  • Heatseeker in Private Matches
  • Larger item pool for Trade Ups
  • Solo Standard removed
  • New Bot difficulty 
  • New Merc Hitbox
  • Rocket League X Monstercat Remixes
  • Updated Menu
  • Changes to Achievements

With the launch of the free-to-play version on September 23, players will be able to earn a $10 Epic Game Store credit just for downloading the game between that date and October 23.

You'll also get two inventory items: Sun Ray Boost and Hot Rocks Trail.

The Rocket Pass will kick off season 1, with more information promised later this week.

There will also be new competitive tournaments as part of launch day, which we reported on here.

Players will also be able to purchase the Endo and Jäger Packs when the game's free-to-play version launches on September 23:

Psyonix is also teasing what looks to be a Fortnite crossover called Llama-Rama, due to be revealed next week.
