In our second weekly stats review, we take a look back at the Rocket League fixtures from Week 2 to find out who’s been bringing their A-game to the Gfinity Elite Series Delivered by Domino’s! Here are five key performances that we noticed throughout last weekend.
1. eekso Makes The Step Up From The Challenger Series
Hashtag United have started the season strongly and secured their second win with a 3-1 victory over Nordavind in Week 2 thanks in no small part to eekso. The Elite Draft graduate has already established himself as a crucial cog in the Hashtag Rocket League starting roster and now sits atop the leading scorers list with 12 goals in his first two games this season.
The stats also show that eekso isn’t merely leading the charts because Hashtag have played two games, as has scored 1.71 goals per game, the best return in the Elite Series.
eekso’s goal-scoring exploits have also given him an average rating of 1.53, the second best in the league behind only Maestro, and his sterling contribution to the Hashtag cause overall shouldn’t go unnoticed as he currently has 57.14% of Hashtag United’s goals, the fourth-best contribution in Season 4 so far.
2. Epsilon Firing Up Front But Leaky At The Back
After an epic 3-2 win in Week 1 over Fnatic, Epsilon came into the second round of fixtures full of confidence that their new roster would be one to watch in Season 4. Having registered 13 goals in their previous outing, Epsilon scored a further 13 goals in their match with ROG Army in Week 2. Epsilon have now scored an average of 2.89 goals per game and have scored the most goals of any team in the Elite Series, but despite their proficiency in front of goal, they found themselves on the end of a 3-1 defeat to ROG Army.
Epsilon have conceded 2.89 goals per game, the third most in the league behind only exceL and ROG Army. However, their shot concession hasn’t been too bad, with an average of 6.56 shots against per game (the fifth best in the league), meaning that it would appear as though Epsilon may need to start making more saves, as after two matches, they have made just 2.98 saves per game, the second lowest in the league.
While it’s clear from these stats that every team should be wary of Epsilon’s ability to score goals, more defensive stability may be required if they are to make it to the latter stages of the Elite Series.
3. Hashtag United Making It Work At Both Ends Of The Pitch
Last week we focused on how Hashtag’s defence had allowed them to dominate ROG Army in their opening match, but questions remained as to whether they would be able to back up their defensive play with attacking flair.
Scoring came easily to Hashtag in Week 2 as eekso put on a masterclass to drive his team to victory. With a league-best 3.00 goals per game and 21 goals in total, Hashtag tore into Nordavind without sacrificing their stability in defence as they have only conceded 1.14 goals per game, the best record in the Elite Series. Part of Hashtag’s success may be because they have only allowed an average of 6.00 shots against per game.
With an attack that’s clicking into gear and a rock-solid defence, Hashtag could be one of the dark horses to go all the way in Season 4.
4. ASUS ROG Army’s Attack In A State Of Flux
It is fair to say that Flux had a relatively inauspicious start to his Elite Series career, with his only previous appearance before last weekend coming in Unilad’s final game of Season 3 which they lost 3-1 to Epsilon having already been eliminated from the tournament.
However, Flux was undeterred and entered the Gfinity Challenger Series to prove his worth once more, and he was rewarded when he made the cut for the Elite Draft and was then snapped up by ROG Army. Flux made an immediate impact in Week 2 having been left out of the starting roster in the first game of the Elite Series, and after just one game has a joint-best 9 assists to his name.
The impressive Flux also ended Week 2 with 2.25 assists per game, an average well clear of the next best record of 1.00 assist per game held jointly by Borito B, Markydooda and Bilbo. The intelligence in Flux’s play helped transform ROG Army’s attack, as after scoring just twice in their first match, the frenzied nature of their attack overwhelmed Epsilon, with the Elite Series newcomers registering 15 goals in their 4 games.
All in all, this meant that Flux has contributed 75.00% of ROG Army’s assists in Week 2 and 52.94% of all their goals in the Elite Series so far.
5. Neqzo Makes His Mark
As Renault Vitality made their way up onto the stage at the Gfinity Esports Arena for the first time this season, the question most people had was how they would cope without FreaKii. The German - now representing Team Secret - was the top scorer in Season 3 with 34 goals at an average of 1.03 per game, and as their season got underway, former Envy sub Neqzo was named in the starting roster to partner the indomitable Fairy Peak and Paschy.
Neqzo made an excellent start to his Vitality career, with the highlight being an incredible goal when he diverted a pass with the slightest of touches from an acute angle to give Vitality a crucial lead in Game 3. His stats were impressive too, making 10 saves at an average of 2.50 saves per game. Neqzo also chipped in with 5 goals at an average of 1.25 goals per game.
