Rooster Teeth is back. Not even a year after being shut down, founder Burnie Burns has decided to buy the company via his production company Box Canyon.
In May 2024, Rooster Teeth shut down its doors after parent company Warner Bros. Discovery failed to find suitable buyers for the "unprofitable" entertainment media company.
In a press release, Burnie Burns stated that his production company acquired Rooster Teeth "and much of its remaining assets," without going into any specifics as to what was obtained by Box Canyon.
Box Canyon will help develop new content during 2025 that ranges from classic shows coming back, a new original audio show titled Again, and finally, a "reimagining" of Burns’ first film: The Schedule.
Old fans will remember RT for its iconic Halo series Red vs Blue, one of the longest-running web series in history, with a total of 19 seasons.
The company has also created shows such as RWBY, a 3D anime-inspired series with nine seasons. Its success has spawned all sorts of spin-offs, mangas, and video games. One of their most recent projects was Gen:Lock, premiering in 2019 and casting Michael B. Jordan as the show's lead voice actor.
On top of that, Rooster Teeth had an extensive podcast network that covered a wide range of topics. All of these properties were on sale by Warner Bros Discovery individually, so it's hard to say what exactly Box Canyon Productions ended up acquiring.
In any case, fans will definitely be happy that Rooster Teeth is back and under leadership, that can foster the company properly and steer it in the right direction.
“I am excited at the challenge of bringing Rooster Teeth back to its roots. The heart of this brand has always been its fans, and I look forward to writing a new chapter together," Burns stated in the press release.
Are Red vs Blue and RWBY making a return? Only time will tell.
