The people of Skyrim are generally a pleasant bunch, with the possibility for making friends as you explore the province being pretty high as long as you don’t go out of your way to annoy your fellow men and mer.
That said, if you’re so inclined, you certainly can upset people, leaving them fuming via a particularly nasty comment or badly-timed punch.
However, a new mod ensures that your unpleasant interactions with Skyrim’s inhabitants can go beyond having your marriage proposals mercilessly rejected.
Why Did You Walk Into Me, Idiot, Can’t You NPC Where You’re Going?
The mod in question is the aptly named “Rude NPCs” by modder seldalore, whose previous work includes stopping Oblivion’s protagonist from grunting and groaning, in addition to bringing a heroic elf child to Skyrim.
Naturally, the mod allows exactly what it suggests, with Skyrim’s people now being a little less friendly than you might remember and delivering a regular barrage of hurtful barbs whenever it suits them, as you can see in the video below:
As seldalore suggests in the mod’s description, these newfound attitudes are perfect for those who want to roleplay as a character with a bad reputation, or who simply looks less than trustworthy.
It principally affects the NPCs default dialogues, so quest and character-specific interactions should be pretty unaffected.
Another thing you don’t have to worry about is being banned from browsing the stock of merchants due to their newfound hatred of everything that you stand for, as, with a little persistent pestering they should come around and begrudgingly let you buy from them.
Also, if the stock rude setting isn’t quite cutting it for you, an alternative file that makes things even sourer is available with the mod.
