Months have passed since Metaphor: ReFantazio’s release, and now rumors are circulating online about a possible re-release for ATLUS’ latest politically charged JRPG.

Midori, a known ATLUS leaker and notorious X user, discussed future ATLUS titles such as Metaphor and Persona 6.

According to the leak, Metaphor: ReFantazio—Retold is an unconfirmed title that might include the cut content left out of the game’s full launch in October last year.

It sounds similar to ATLUS' previous extended titles, the Persona games, which are known to be re-released with added story and gameplay content.

Persona 5 Royal added the third-semester event for Joker and his gang of Phantom Thieves, while in Persona 4 Golden, Marie’s debut adds a special dungeon for the Winter season.

This was a bizarre decision, as ATLUS once said in an interview a few years ago that it would not re-release its IPs after Shin Megami Tensei: V Vengeance.

However, Metaphor: ReFantazio—Retold, while unconfirmed, begs the question of where the added content fits in, considering that the game runs at a breakneck pace for six months.

Right now, all we can do is speculate, but given the original Metaphor: ReFantazio’s story, the files contained various cut content, including playable characters and missing dungeons, namely Rella and the Magic Academy.

After all, fans are still wondering why the Altabury Arc ended way too soon despite its climactic showdown with the antagonist.

There are still many questions surrounding this leak, so please take everything stated here with a grain of salt.

Fans quickly tried to debunk this rumor; Midori, or Ryan, a notorious ATLUS leaker, made massive claims about ATLUS’s next set of titles, including Persona 6.

He’s also known for leaking a screenshot of Persona 3 Reload months before its release.

No release date is slated for this re-release, as Metaphor: ReFantazio just came out three months ago. It still needs time to bask in its multiple awards, including Best RPG, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction at last year’s The Game Awards.

The leak also specified that another Metaphor: ReFantazio project, is in the works for Netflix. Fans speculate that this is the anime adaptation that was announced last year.

It is once again a topic of contention for fans of ATLUS titles. Will they finally let go of this odd business practice of re-releasing titles years after release? For longtime ATLUS fans, they aren’t even surprised at all.
