An influx of tokens dubbed Shiba Inu 2.0 have popped up, claiming to be the next phase of Shiba Inu.

2.0 tokens or coins have been a hot topic in the crypto world this year. From the Ethereum merge bringing the next stage of Ethereum 2.0, to the launch of Luna 2.0, to one claim that Bitcoin 2.0 is coming, we’ve heard plenty about them.

However, one token that is not coming, at least not officially, is Shiba Inu 2.0.

Shiba Inu 2.0

According to Etherscan, there are ten ERC-20 tokens all named Shiba Inu 2.0, most with the SHIB2 symbol.

These tokens have a combined 663 holders, ranging from 1 holder to 370 holders. They join a long list of ERC-20 tokens with names linked to Shiba Inu.

One of the most popular token names in this category is Shibarium. The SHIB Layer-2 is still a misunderstood project, mainly due to previous descriptions of it calling Shibarium a new blockchain. This confusion saw some holders wondering whether a new token would launch as part of Shibarium - whether called Shibarium, or Shiba Inu 2.0.

There are no plans for a new Shiba Inu token.

The official Shiba Inu team and community members have issued warnings in the past against similar tokens.

Indeed, the copies have expanded outside just the SHIB tokens. Several apps called Shiba Eternity also appear on storefronts, named after the Shiba Inu game of the same title, which is not yet live.

Currently, the only tokens officially part of the Shiba Ecosystem are SHIB, BONE and LEASH. The SHI stablecoin and TREAT token are slated for launch in the future, but are not yet live. Tokens of the same name are unaffiliated with the official ecosystem.
