Prospective Shiba Inu holders must stay vigilant against fake tokens attempting to mimic upcoming tokens in the SHIB ecosystem, according to members of the SHIB Community.
Shytoshi Kusama’s latest Medium revealed the SHI stablecoin would release in 2022, and also announced the upcoming TREAT token. Following this, community members are urging holders to not buy any tokens with those names, as neither has launched.
Here’s why.
SHI and TREAT Tokens Pop Up After Fake Announcement
In a post by one SHIB holder and Discord staff member, they identified 10 tokens with similar names to SHIB-related tokens unaffiliated with the project.
Ranging in name from SHI Inu and SHI DAO to TREATS and Shina Inu, the member reminded holders about the current state of the Shiba ecosystem.
“Another reminder that #SHIB Developers have not deployed nor $SHI or $TREAT yet,” they said.
This was then echoed by Shiba Growth breed member Queenie. “Please remember that we have not released SHI or TREAT yet,” she said.
The only three tokens currently available that are in the SHIB ecosystem are SHIB, BONE and LEASH. The token Ryoshis Vision shares a close relationship with SHIB, particularly after its role in the Shiba Inu Burn Portal. But this is still outside the ecosystem. However, the token has received plenty of criticism recently for the delays to SHIB Burn rewards.
Of course, this is nothing new for the Shiba Inu ecosystem. Tokens for Shibarium have previously surfaced, unaffiliated with the official token. Meanwhile, third-party tokens about SHIB burning have also attracted controversy.
Some of these tokens and their names may be completely coincidental to the upcoming Shiba Inu tokens. Alternatively, they are happy positioning themselves outside of the SHIB sphere. However, it appears those close to the project are cautious of users perceiving any of these tokens as part of Shiba Inu, and blaming them if anything goes wrong.
