The Lord of the Rings TV Show Trailer Reveals Title and Story Details

The title treatment showcases areas of Middle Earth being forged out of metal, while an ominous, airy voice recites J.R.R. Tolkien’s Ring-verse:

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

The teaser was apparently made without CGI, adding to how impressive the title sequence looks.

The Rings of Power is being led by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, who have teased more details about the plot. The duo confirms the previous speculation of the show’s setting, with the Prime series following Middle-Earth’s second age - thousands of years before Peter Jackson’s movies (via Digital Spy).

This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to JRR Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age.

The showrunners tease further exploration of Sauron while more Rings are expected to show up beyond the single Ring we saw on film:

The forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.

Amazon’s purchase of Tolkien’s property made airways in 2017, with the rights alone toppling $250 million. Season 1 of the show reportedly carries a price tag of $465 million, making it the most expensive season of any TV show produced.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is coming to Amazon Prime on September 2nd.
