Breakdown

  • New Silent Hill 2 remake leaks tease a May 30, 2024 release date
  • New marketing materials are being shipped to retail stores
  • The game currently has no official release year window

Bloober Team’s controversial Silent Hill 2 remake is currently deep in development at the Polish horror game studio. However, a new release date leak has claimed the horror title will be launching very soon, and we don’t buy it.

Silent Hill 2 remake is part of Konami’s attempts to reboot its horror franchise following the success of Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes. With new games like The Short Message, it seems the attempt will end up more like the recent underwhelming reboot of Alone in the Dark.

Via Reddit, Silent Hill 2 fans have collated numerous leaks for the horror game teasing a release date of May 30, 2024. With new marketing materials sent to retail game stores such as GameStop, fans believe the game is getting ready for a surprise May launch.

However, this doesn’t seem like a safe bet, especially after the horror game’s poor showing at the January 2024 State of Play showcase. In fact, the recent “Silent Hill 2 - Combat Reveal Trailer” was so bad that Bloober Team completely blamed Konami for the game’s horrendous showing.

“It's quite serious that we are not responsible for the marketing,” said Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno. “Our partner [Konami] is entirely responsible for this. Certainly this trailer does not reflect the spirit of the game.”

Furthermore, at the end of the game’s recent trailer didn’t even state a release year for the horror remake. Instead, the trailer ends with the statement: “In development for PlayStation 5”.

Then again, Bloober Team does have a history of surprising release dates. After months of silence, the developer’s early Xbox Series X exclusive The Medium was confirmed for release in December, 2020. The game’s release date was confirmed just one month prior, so there is precedent for this kind of announcement.

However, considering Konami’s tendency to control everything, and the fact that fans rebelled against the recent Silent Hill 2 remake trailer, a May 30, 2024 release date doesn’t seem feasible for the horror adventure.
