Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on changing the game by overhauling iconic quests, revamping menus, and adding interesting player homes to it, with a few even going as far as re-creating areas from previous Elder Scrolls games or giving players the ability to run around Tamriel as Batman.
For those who love mods that can simply add a little bit of extra immersive flavour to a playthrough and don’t tend to opt for a playstyle specialising in Restoration magic, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.
Ever feel like you should reward those guards who’ve bravely helped you fight off dragon attacks on villages and towns?
The mod in question is called ‘Heal Injured Guards’, and is the work of modder Maleficus32. Some of their previous work has provided survival mode players with more healing options and brought the interesting hobby of cow-tipping to Tamriel.
This time they’ve decided to give the Dragonborn an easy way to help out any poor guards that might get injured in the line of duty, for example, while protecting their settlements from bandits or dragons that you’ve dragged back to civilisation because they’re a bit too tough for you to take down alone.
While those who enjoy playing as a healer could already offer some aid to NPCs via spells like Healing Hands or Heal Other, this mod provides an alternative option more suitable for those whose builds aren’t magically-inclined.
With it installed, talking to an injured guard should present you with a chance to give them a healing potion from your inventory, which, once accepted, will restore them to full health.
While this may go against your established instinct to hoard as many of these valuable elixirs as possible for use on yourself, healing guards will boost your relationship rank with them resulting in a bit more friendly dialogue from them during future encounters.
So, if you’re roleplaying as an honourable warrior or trying to establish yourself as a well-regarded figure in a city you’ve just been granted Thanedom of, you might want to consider putting occasionally selfish desires aside to rectify an arrow sticking out of someone’s knee.
