Skyrim modder immersively overhauls the quest to clear out Kolskeggr Mine

Modders have put a lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the eleven years since it was first released into the world.

A lot of these efforts have focused on making the game more immersive, making additions ranging from destructible furniture to dynamically-learning NPCs and even destination weddings to it, as well as giving its animals swimming lessons.

Now, one modder has added to this work by taking it upon themselves to redesign one of The Reach’s quests, ensuring that it’ll no longer be a forgettable footnote in your adventuring life.

Are you looking forward to playing a revitalised version of this Skyrim quest?

The mod in question is called ‘Environs - Kolskeggr’, and is the work of modder Siberpunk. Their previous work has ensured that Whiterun’s Western Watchtower will be gradually repaired following its dragon attack, and ensured that the state of a couple of small cabins around the province will quietly evolve as the main quest progresses.

This time, they’ve focused in on the minor quest to clear Kolskeggr Mine of Forsworn, which you can get by visiting the displaced miners sheltering at Markarth’s Left Hand Mine.

While the simple central goal of getting rid of the hostile tribespeople that have taken over the mine remains, the mod ensures that things will feel a bit more dynamic by enacting changes to the buildings outside of the mine depending on the stage of the quest you’re at.

For example, when you first show up to Kolskeggr, you’ll be greeted by clear evidence that a battle has taken place in the form of some smouldering ruins, signs of ransacking, and the bodies of miners who didn’t escape fast enough.

Then, once you’ve completed the quest by taking care of the invaders, all of this mess will be cleaned up and some NPCs will begin to rebuild the destroyed houses, as well as resuming their duties in the mine.

Finally, if you decide to return to the location once you’ve been away and levelled up a few times, you’ll find it to resemble a perfectly functioning settlement, with everything mended and some additional NPCs having moved in.

Regardless of whether you plan to swing by every five minutes and force these characters to thank you for saving their mine, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding.
