Is Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Multiplayer?

The good news is that yes, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga multiplayer is a thing. In fact, it wouldn't be a Lego game without it.

Co-op play has been at the core of the Lego games since the first Star Wars entry way back in 2005, so it's no surprise to see it back for this latest game. Smashing through bricks, earning pieces, and unlocking new characters is always better with a friend in town, and The Skywalker Saga lets you do all of that.

However, the disappointing downside is that Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga doesn't have online multiplayer. Yes, the only way to link up with friends is via split-screen.

You can't join an online lobby to play with a geographically distant friend, with no matchmaking facilities present. It's a shame for sure, but the Lego games have never had online multiplayer as a feature, so perhaps it isn't too much of a surprise even in this new generation of consoles.

How Do I Join Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Multiplayer?

While you can't play Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga multiplayer online, getting onto local co-op is quite easy.

As with previous Lego games, all you need to do is turn on another controller separate to the Player 1 input. It will then start flashing on the screen as a recognised guest. Just hit the listed button prompt (either A on Xbox or X on PlayStation) to join up.

Hit that button, and you'll then get to choose which character to load in as. We recommend Jar-Jar Binks, for no reason other than his inherent comedic chops. From there, you can roam around the world, completing missions with your co-op ally.

Can I Play Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Multiplayer on One Screen?

Old-school Lego game fans will remember the days where you and your co-op partner played on one single screen. The camera would pan around to focus on both of you, rather than showing you both on separate adventures.

Quite understandably given the increased size of this game's hub worlds, that isn't possible in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

As with recent games like Lego Batman 3 and the Avengers tie-in, there's a solid black line in the middle that divides you both, so you can see where you are without the camera doing gymnastics to keep up. Split-screen is here to stay, and no amount of digging through the menus will present the option to go back to the way things were.

Sadly, there's nothing in the settings menus to let you tweak this and revert back to the old formula. It's a shame, but the only way to roam in co-op is with the modernised camera layout.
