The Sonic Central stream had some neat surprises for fans of the Blue Hedgehog who are already anticipating the launch of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in theaters and Sonic X Shadow Generations in modern and last-gen consoles: Sonic Rumble, a battle royale that's launching this Winter on PC and mobile devices.

Sonic Rumble will feature up to 32 players in different PvP activities that will see them trying to collect the most rings or complete a race before anyone else.

There are a total of five different including Run, in which all 32 players compete to complete a track before anyone else, with the top 16 moving to subsequent rounds, which can feature a blend of survival, a hunt to gather the most rings or a more co-op experience in which teamwork will be key.

Sadly, if this all tickles your fancy and you were looking for a console launch, the announcement during the Sonic Central stream specifically mentioned that Sonic Rumble will only be available on PC and Android/iOS, at least initially.

Pre-registration for the game will be announced later; however, if you're from a few select countries, you can do so now. The countries in question are:

  • The Phillippines
  • Peru
  • Colombia
  • Finland
  • Sweden
  • Norway
  • Denmark
  • Belgium
  • Brazil
  • The Netherlands
  • Luxembourg

Sonic Rumble will be showcased during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, so more information about pre-registration and a concrete release date might happen at the event.

For reference, TGS will go down on September 26, ending on the 29.
