Spider-Man PS4 save files will transfer to PS5 after all

Sony and Insomniac have heard players’ feedback, and it’s pretty good news all around for fans of the Marvel’s Spider-Man series this week.

In a new blog post published on Monday, Sony announced that players who purchase Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version free whenever they purchase the newer console.

If you’re buying a physical copy, just make sure you plan on getting the PS5 with a disc drive; you’ll need it to access the free next-gen upgrade.

And if you decide to upgrade your purchase of Miles Morales to the Ultimate Edition later — after you get a PS5, say — you can do so for just $20 extra. This gives you access to Spider-Man Remastered, a completely PS5-optimized version of Insomniac’s 2018 masterpiece.

One of the biggest complaints about Remastered, specifically, has been that folks wouldn’t be able to transfer their existing PS4 saves over to the new version; Insomniac wants to make those people happy, too.

“We have heard you. In an upcoming update for Spider-Man PS4, we will add the ability to export your save to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered,” the developer announced in a tweet on Monday.

“This update will also add the three new suits from Remastered to the PS4 game. We expect to bring you this update around Thanksgiving.”

Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Spider-Man Remastered, and the Sony PlayStation 5 are all set to launch on Thursday, November 12.
