Starting with the online multiplayer, Splatoon 3 promises a Turf War mode, which “can create some heated online 4-v-4 battles across a mix of new and familiar stages, where teams of four face off to cover the most ground in their ink”.

For a good look at this area of the game in particular, plus a new stage called Eeltail Alley and a new bow-shaped weapon in the form of the stringer, which “enables players to sling ink sideways and vertically”, take a look at the gameplay trailer below.

Though, if single player is more your thing, don’t worry, as the game is set to feature a completely fresh campaign mode, which will see you “join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze”.

Alongside this is an improved version of the Salmon Run co-op mode, in which “players can ink up with others to fend off waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses, some of which are colossal in size”.

If you’re keen to get back up to speed with Splatoon before the new game releases and you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member who already owns Splatoon 2, you can currently jump into the Octo Expansion DLC for free via the Nintendo eShop.
