A new Fortnite experience has Kid Cudi dropping into Epic’s battle royale game decked out as a new Star Trek Captain dubbed 'Captain Skyles'.
Announced via the Star Trek website, the campaign is called "Boldly Be" and reproduces the hip hop star as a Star Trek captain who appears in Fortnite. It is also being released alongside a new space-themed music track.
"The collaboration will launch on October 12 at the start of New York Comic Con with the release of an original Kid Cudi song inspired by Star Trek titled 'Heaven’s Galaxy'," the website says. "Fans can also visit the Star Trek x Kid Cudi booth that will showcase the capsule collection and a first look at the Fortnite gaming experience at NYCC on the Javits show floor from Oct. 12-15, booth 2653."
The new Fortnite content has you go "on a mission to uncover the source of a sonic anomaly that threatens the peaceful planet Vada." Players will beam down to the planet and work together to eliminate the the dark forces in order to "uncover the source of this musical malady and restore the harmony of Vada while there’s still time."
Kid Cudi's new song is inspired by space and is taken from his new album, Insano. His other projects have a clear space and sci-fi theme - with albums like Man on the Moon - and he is a Star Trek fan. That makes this new event even more pertinent, then.
STAR TREK X KID CUDI: MIRROR MAYHEM, the official title of the new Fortnite event, will launch later this month.
