Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collection is now out on all platforms, and it’s a total trainwreck. Announced at a Nintendo Direct, the new collection combines both classic Battlefront games in one huge package.
Aspyr Mefia’s Star Wars Battlefront remasters were already criticised before launch for the use of stolen mods from the community. However, the remasters have also been criticised for being downright awful.
Via our sister site StealthOptional, the Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collection has a Mostly Negative review score on the platform. Fans point out horrid matchmaking with only three available servers despite the thousands of gamers attempting to play. Furthermore, the game bizarrely takes up 60GB of space on your device.
Since the game’s release, Aspyr Media has released a short statement, telling fans that they’re working on the issues. However, the developer didn’t apologise for the product’s state or even explain why the game is the way it is.
“At launch, we experienced critical errors with our network infrastructure. The result was incredibly high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes, and servers not appearing in the browser,” Aspyr said on its blog. “Since launch, we’ve been working to address these issues and increase network stability, and we will continue our efforts until our network infrastructure is stabilized to prevent further outages.”
However, none of this actually addresses the issues many fans have with the Battlefront remasters. As the long-awaited return of two fan-favourite games, fans expected better. Following the studio’s poor treatment of other classic Star Wars games — namely the Switch port of KOTOR 2 — Aspyr is already on thin ice with fans.
Players have not taken kindly to Aspyr’s response with many demanding more accountability for the state of the Battlefront Classic Collection.
“This is pure negligence, you guys did this with Jedi Academy. It came to no surprise this would have issues as well,” one player said. “If you have to push something back a couple of weeks or even months to get it working, we as gamers really don't mind. We do mind if it's rushed out the door for a release and have to be told to wait for a patch,” said another.
At the time of writing, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is missing a tonne of features and is filled with bugs. From graphical inconsistencies to sound issues to the complete lack of Y-Axis inversion options for vehicles, the Battlefront Remasters are huge disappointments.
