What Is Star Wars Squadrons?

This brand new game, developed by Motive Studios, is an immersive, first-person space dogfighting experience set in the beloved Star Wars galaxy that brings the starfighter pilot fantasy to life.

While it reminds us of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, it's an entirely new game taking place during the final days of the galactic empire and the rise of the new republic after the events of Star War The Return of the Jedi.

The game will include single-player campaign and multiplayer as well as VR aspects according to @Wario64.

Campaign & Multiplayer

Multiplayer will feature thrilling 5v5 multiplayer dogfights, monumental fleet battles, and an original story set during the final days of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Single Player Preview

A single-player preview for Star Wars: Squadrons was revealed at Gamescon 2020.

Star Wars Squadrons Leaks on Microsoft Store

According to sources, the title is a space combat game that features a single-player campaign but is predominantly focused on multiplayer.

It's slated to release later this year and will mark the fourth major Star Wars release from EA after two Battlefront titles and the more positively-received Jedi: Fallen Order.

The publisher has also cancelled multiple games in the Star Wars franchise, including one that was being worked on by Visceral.

Could Squadrons be the Rogue Squadron successor we've waited years for? We likely won't have long to wait to find out, with the publisher's EA Play event right around the corner.
