This compact Stardew Valley trees and tappers guide has everything you need to know to make the most of the towering trunks both on your farm and in the surrounding areas. From explaining how they grow, to what you can craft and cook with the materials they produce, you shouldn't have any questions after this quick read.
Good for more than just chopping down their wood, Stardew Valley trees can be fostered, nurtured, and drained without consequence through the use of the Tapper item. The Heavy Tapper, while much harder to come across, speeds up the same process. Simply put, you don't want to chop down every tree on the farm. The space is great, but the missed opportunities come at a cost.

Trees in Stardew Valley
A few different types of trees can be commonly found in Stardew Valley both around town and on your farm. All of them can be foraged using the same few methods, but the produce and materials they offer can differ.
Tree | Produce (when chopped) |
---|---|
Maple Tree | Wood, Sap, Maple Seed, Hazelnut (low chance in the second half of Fall) |
Pine Tree | Wood, Sap, Pinecone |
Oak Tree | Wood, Sap, Acorn |
Mahogany Tree | Hard Wood, Sap, Mahogany Seed |
Palm Tree | Coconut |
Mushroom Tree | Red Mushroom, Purple Mushroom |
Maple, Pine, Oak, and Mahogany Trees can all occur largely by chance, either by sprouting off of a neighboring tree, or via seed dropped naturally or obtained and planted by shaking or chopping the tree in question.
How to craft a tapper in Stardew Valley
Item | Recipe | Source |
---|---|---|
Tapper | 40 Wood, 2 Copper Bar | Foraging 3 (automatic unlock) |
Heavy Tapper | 30 Hardwood, 1 Radioactive Bar | Qi's Walnut Room |
Two different types of Tapper, the standard Tapper and Heavy Tapper, can be crafted and attached to fully-grown trees. Just have the item in the active hotbar slot and swing to place it on a tree.
You can craft a tapper after reaching Foraging Level 3 by using 40 Wood and 2 Copper Bars.
In order to craft Heavy Tappers, players need to obtain the recipe from Qi's Walnut Room on Ginger Island. Each Heavy Tapper requires 30 Hardwood and one Radioactive Bar to produce.
Tappers extract a resource specific to each type of tree on set schedules dictated by the type of tree, with Heavy Tappers reducing this time by half but not affecting the type of material it produces from each tree.
Tree | Produce (when tapped) | Tapper time | Heavy Tapper time |
---|---|---|---|
Maple Tree | Maple Syrup | 9 nights | 4 nights |
Pine Tree | Pine Tar | 5 nights | 2 nights |
Oak Tree | Oak Resit | 7 nights | 3 nights |
Mahogany Tree | Sap | Every night | Every night |
Mushroom Tree | Red Mushroom, Purple Mushroom, Common Mushroom | Differs | Differs |
You can reuse a Tapper attached to a tree by hitting it with any non-explosive weapon to knock it loose. Once it pops away from the tree, you can pick it back up where it will be stored in your inventory, and from here, you can reattach it to any tree. Be warned, however, because if you dislodge a tapper halfway through its cycle you won't be bestowed with the syrup, tar, or resin it was brewing.
