Most of the hardcore Bethesda RPG fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 can't wait for the release of Starfield, which is set for September 6.

These would-be interstellar explorers got plenty of fresh answers regarding what to expect from their trip to space at this month’s Starfield Direct, which featured everything from some potential peeks at Earth, to surprisingly valuable sandwiches and even a ship with a rage quit button.

While they’ve also recently learned that the game likely doesn't star the famous Skyrim Grandma, one stalwart Bethesda character definitely makes an appearance in it, with one fan having just floated a killer idea regarding what could happen if you try to harm him.

Do you like the idea of the Adoring Fan becoming a villain in Starfield?

The proposal in question has come from the mind of Reddit user Ouroboros612, who has put together a post on r/starfield pitching the concept of the infamous Adoring Fan becoming the “loathing rival,” a “recurring villain with a small randomised chance of appearing at main story points to sabotage you,” if you attempt to kill him.

In terms of what this sabotage could look like, they outline a few different scenarios, which include supplying bosses you’re battling with better weapons, repairing their ships on the fly to mitigate some of the damage you’ve caused, or buffing the turret defences of their bases.

Making it through three of these encounters would then lead to a final confrontation that sees you battle the fan to the death after he boards your ship, with Ouroboros612 even having written his haunting last words, which would be: “I was your biggest fan. I just wanted to worship the ground you walked on. How could you do this to me? Why? I just wanted you to... give a little... back.”

While the user recognises that it’s too late for Bethesda to incorporate this idea into the game if it isn’t already there, they conclude: “[I] thought [the idea] could [create] a more serious, sad, tragic and human [side] to his character.”

The pitch seems to be going down pretty well with their peers so far, with one user thoth1000, having suggested an alternative and somehow even more meta way of implementing it, suggesting that he could become the “toxic fan” and “appear at random times to insult your gameplay and talk about what you should have done instead, or how your actions are inconsistent with what you've done in the past.”
