Bethesda Game Studios’ controversial sci-fi RPG may have received a major patch with game-changing features, but fans of the game are still waiting for additional content. Those who have spent hours looking at patch notes and updates are certain “something big” is coming to the game.
Starfield will include “new forms of travel”, such as land vehicles, as well as a huge Shattered Space expansion sometime in the future. However, with no release date currently known, fans are currently scrounging for any information they can get from the game’s latest patch notes.
One fan on the Starfield subreddit speculated that “something big is going on behind the scenes” after noticing exponential growth in changelogs on SteamDB. While Bethesda made only 50 changes between February and March, Starfield's SteamDB now sees “sometimes more than 10 per day.”
Given the volume of changes on the game's SteamDB page, fans are convinced that Bethesda will reveal the Shattered Space expansion during Microsoft's Xbox Showcase on June 9, 2024, alongside the reveal of Black Ops 6.
“My theory is that on the day of the Xbox Showcase, they'll be presenting the Shattered Space expansion as well as the June update,” said Reddit user JarusinTheStars. “And I think it'll be even bigger than the last one. They want to make an impression, and this is their only opportunity to do so.”
Fans also believe the Starfield June update will finally release the game's modding tools and enable mod installations on Xbox Series consoles. This would allow players to create new planets, characters, quests, mechanics, and more using the Creation Kit.
Critics have panned Starfield's base game for its poor main quest and repetitive points of interest. Hopefully, when modding support arrives, players will experience a wealth of inventive content that leverages the game's strong core gameplay.
You can play Starfield now on Xbox Series and PC, either as a standalone purchase or as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription.
