There’s no question that Starfield has been a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to reviews of Bethesda’s next big RPG blockbuster. However, for players thoroughly enjoying the experience, or those wanting even more content post launch, it appears around 250 of Bethesda’s developers are still hard at work on the title.
In a recent Wired interview, game director Todd Howard stated that not only is there approximately “450 people” working over at Bethesda at this current time, “about 250” of those are continuing to put their all into its expansive space adventure.
Doing some quick math, this means that over half of the complete Bethesda development team is still working on Starfield, squashing bugs, adding features such as DLSS, and more. Howard didn’t divulge much more on what the team is actually working on but it’s pretty safe to say a big chunk of it will also be pouring their efforts into the Stattered Space DLC.
The first Starfield DLC doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing but with the sheer number of bodies actively developing the game, what we can only hope for is that it won’t get pushed back again and again like the base game.
As for the rest of the 450, Howard did allude to a bunch also doing what they can to keep content coming to Fallout 76, with the newest Atlantic City DLC also expected to launch in 2024, more than likely in a very different release window to Starfield’s.
There was sadly no nod to the new Elder Scrolls title in the interview but this is no surprise as everything will be completely under wraps until we’re much closer to that all-important first proper trailer. However, considering the game is currently in early development, a large selection of devs are likely working on the upcoming fantasy RPG as well.
With Starfield touted as being 25 years in the making, it’s not particularly shocking that this many people are still heads down on making the game even better. But, for those hoping that resources might have shifted to a newer project, unfortunately, you’ll have to wait that bit longer for another Bethesda RPG masterclass.
