November 10, 2023: Learn how to increase carry capacity in Starfield with our guide.

Looking to increase carry capacity in Starfield? We've got you covered. Starfield, like many other modern RPGs, offers a wide variety of items to collect, from weapons and armour to crafting materials and mundane objects that can be sold for a few credits.

Apart from that, inventory management is a common feature in previous Bethesda RPGs like Skyrim, and the developer is leaning on this feature in Starfield as well. This can be daunting for some players, as there are often a lot of items to keep track of.

If you are a collector, you will quickly exceed your maximum carrying capacity in Starfield and will be forced to leave behind some items if you don't want to slow down your movement and consume vital oxygen. Thankfully, there are ways you can increase your carry capacity in the game.

How to increase carry capacity in Starfield

The best and simplest way to increase your carry capacity in Starfield is by adding ranks to the Weight Lifting skill. You can do this by equipping the skill and simply levelling it up by sprinting while carrying items over 75% of your total load capacity.

You can also find or modify gear with the Pocketed trait, such as on boost packs, to increase your carrying capacity.

Another amusing way to increase your carrying capacity in Starfield is to drink booze. Consuming liquor such as whiskey or cocktails like Departure Time will temporarily increase your carrying capacity, but the effects will wear off after a few minutes.

Using the Lodge Locker

After joining Constellation in the early hours of Starfield, you will be given your own quarters in The Lodge in New Atlantis. Your room includes a bed and a pretty much infinite-capacity locker. So if you have any items that you don't want to drop or leave in your ship's hold, you can quickly go to your room and store them there for use later.

While that might seem a bit obvious, another way to avoid being overburdened or encumbered in the game is to ask a companion to trade items with you, and then give them all of your resources and unused items.

Lastly, you can load up your ship's cargo bay as well. You can do this by accessing the cargo bay interface by going to the left side of your cockpit and interacting with the glowing panel. If you're playing on PC, press R to open the interface, and then use Q to select items to offload from your inventory. On Xbox, you can press X to open the interface, and then use LB to select items to offload from your inventory.
