Last June, Street Fighter 6 was revealed during Sony's State of Play showcase. Capcom has been aiming to bring the game on par with other contemporary fighting games, and one of the features the developer plans to bring is cross-platform play. This could be a game-changer for the Street Fighter series as it will allow players from different platforms to fight for glory in the iconic game. Crossplay is in most multiplayer games today and it's surprising Capcom hasn't followed along with it in their own games. With that, we have a run down of the Street Fighter 6 crossplay features.
Street Fighter 6's official release is drawing near. Once again, there's a single-player story mode to play through, new and returning characters, and even an online combat mode players are excited for.
Is Street Fighter 6 crossplay?
In some fighting games, players are unable to play online with friends on other platforms. Previous Street Fighter games didn't support it, for example.
However, this will all change for Street Fighter 6. When the game was first revealed, streamer, Maximilian Dood, confirmed directly from the game developers at Capcom that this sixth instalment will have crossplay.
Crossplay will be seen across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, so fans on all platforms are excited.
How crossplay will work
But what does crossplay even mean? While it simply means that players can play together regardless of their platform, the game's population of players won't be divided among consoles. Matchmaking times could be short thanks to crossplay as it combines all possible players into one pool.
How it'll work in game, in terms of it being an option you can turn on and off, we're not sure yet, nor do we know how it'll affect the more competitive modes of Street Fighter 6. We'll be sure to update you once we get ours hands on the game, though.
