How Do I Start The Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Expansion?

To start the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion, you'll need to have completed the base game already. That's because this new release is set at the Master Rank, the highest possible level you can reach.

Therefore, you won't be able to just purchase Monster Hunter Rise, and get into the Sunbreak story line straight away. The base game can take players anywhere from 30 to 50 hours to complete, depending on your level of experience with the franchise. Starting Sunbreak will be an easy task if you already have a completed save on the game, but newcomers will need to grind before accessing the new monsters and missions.

What Are The Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Requirements?

In terms of specifics, there are several smaller requirements that need to be fulfilled before the Sunbreak expansion appears within your Monster Hunter Rise save. As mentioned, you need to have 'completed' the base game, which doesn't technically mean hitting 100% completion.

First of all, you'll need to finish the main quest within the base game. The final mission is called Heart of Might. Once you finish that, your Master Rank will be as high as possible.

With that done, you'll also need to have completed the final Gathering Hub quest, called Serpent Goddess of Thunder. This is the proper 'ending' of Monster Hunter Rise, if you want to call it that, and you'll need to have finished it to unlock Sunbreak.

If you've managed to max out your Master Rank and finish both Heart of Might and Serpent Goddess of Thunder, you'll automatically watch a new cutscene the next time you load up the game. This is what introduces you to Sunbreak, and the vast new isle you'll get to explore. From there, the new content is all yours.

That's everything you need to know about how to start the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion! It's not too accommodating to newcomers, but this hardcore RPG franchise never has been. For even more of this style of game, check out our list of the best free RPG games!
