Rumors of a 3D Super Mario anthology persist, despite no official word from Nintendo.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars?
September’s here, and September 13 marks the 35th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. Back in March, VGC reported that Nintendo was working on a special collection of re-releases featuring Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.
These were expected, the report said, as part of Nintendo’s E3 presence — and as part of a 35th-anniversary celebration of Super Mario. But COVID-19 put an end to everyone’s E3 plans this year.
VGC is now reporting that — according to podcaster “Nate the Hate” — these re-releases will be announced sometime very soon, with Nintendo targeting a holiday 2020 release.
The podcaster claims we can expect a collection with Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy in the lead-up to the holidays and then a Super Mario 3D World Deluxe announcement in time for 2021.
“Really excited for Nintendo to celebrate Super Mario’s 36th anniversary next year,” industry insider Jeff Grubb joked on Twitter last week.
