Byleth Guide
First lets establish some characteristics about the character:
- Low mobility
- Low grab range
- Great range with weapons
- The Hero's relic changes depending on the direction of the stick used
All relics appear in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses game. Byleth has four available, depending on the direction stick input:
- Sword of the Creator
- Areadbhar
- Aymr
- Failnaught
Sword of the Creator
The Sword of the Creator is Byleth's default weapon, used primarily for
- Flurry attacks
- Tilt attacks
- Dash attacks
The weapon is unique in that it can take the form of a whip when using things such as down-tilt.
The Up-Smash attack will launch opponents upwards using a whip.
The Up-Air attack will cause them to throw the whip up in the air and the hit-box lasts a long time.
Byleth's Up-special attack will allow you to capture and reel in opponents using the whip sword, which can be used as a great tool to essentially spike players off of the stage and create for great edge guarding.
You'll only be able to do this after certain damage percentage, as it will launch them upwards until them.
This move can also be used to grab ledges when attempting to get back on stage.
Areadbhar
This weapon focuses sideways inputs and has a very long reach, meaning you'll beat out most opposing sword characters and find it a bit easier to gap close against projectile spam.
It's important to remember that the tip of Byleth's sword does more damage than the shaft. It will also be stronger if you add an upward tilt to your Smash attacks.
When an opponent is knocked down, your Side attacks will not connect unless you add a downward tilt.
Byleth's side-special is an upward swing with extreme reach and also bring Byleth forward a small distance (especially if charged), meaning it can catch players out.
It's also a very safe option for attacking players above you. However, it can easily be shielded so you must be careful not to become predictable.
If you use it while in mid-air, you'll be able to cover almost a 180-degree angle, so its a great option to cancel out someone trying to juggle you.
Once you land, you will be vulnerable for a brief amount of time.
Aymr
This weapon focuses on downwards inputs.
Byleth's Down-air attack is very strong and tough to deal with, it has a real meteor effect to it and can even be used on those grabbing the ledge of a stage.
The Down attack has a great deal of launch power and a good spread, that can do serious damage without needing to over commit.
Byleth's Down special charges up and unleashes a single strike on the opponent, which is similar to a Falcon punch.
Where it differs is that there is a super armour effect that allows you to withstand an attack., due to its slower nature. However, it can be cancelled if you are grabbed.
You can also move through platforms and turn around during the charging process.
Even if your attack misses, it will deliver an area of effect hit that launches your opponent and deals a small amount of damage.
Try not to use this move against characters that have a counter move as you will quickly lose a stock.
Failnaught
Failnaught is a brow that focuses on neutral moves, it only appears in a selection of moves.
When using a Neutral air attack you will swing the bow in a 360-degree fashion to attack enemies.
When using the Neutral special attack, it will unleash a bow and arrow at your opponent.
The bow once activated will keep charging until released, the arrow will also NOT be released until it is fully charged.
You can, however, cancel the animation by pressing the shield button.
Byleth can also turn to face the other direction while using the bow and arrow.
If you keep holding the button you will unleash a devastatingly powerful arrow - this move can not be cancelled at all.
Final Smash
Byleth's Final Smash is called "Progenitor God Ruptured Heaven".
This attack will see Byleth and Sothis join forces to unleash an area of effect attack.
