Super Smash Bros Ultimate: How to Play

Super Smash Bros as a franchise is built on one main goal - knock your opponents off of or out of the arena.

To do that, you'll punch, jump, fly, shoot and, well, smash in order to build up enough damage to be able to send them flying.

That's a huge oversimplification of course, and with flashy moves and animations it can be tough to work out where your character is on the screen, let alone what they're doing.

There are also multiple rule variations, but you'll essentially be working on building the damage percentage at the bottom of the screen. The higher the number, the more chance of a knockout.

While every character has their own moveset and abilities, there's an element of experimentation that means once you find a character you click with, you'll feel ready for anything.

If you're just starting out, consider jumping into battles against the CPU as an easy-to-learn character like Kirby or Link. Before you know it, you'll be somersaulting and slapping some of gaming's famous faces with ease.
