Through its unique weapon type classifications, Bungie's futuristic MMOFPS has incorporated a plethora of innovative and interesting weaponry for the use of aspiring Guardians, as they shoot their way across the thrilling solar system.
The large assortment of weapon classes, subclasses and their variation in rarity has often resulted in players questioning the reliability of each individual firearm, as they search for the coveted ‘best weapon’.
Although the existence of a weapon which exceeds its counterparts in every aspect is improbable, I do believe it is possible to list the top 10 most over powered guns based upon their performances in PvP and PvE game modes. As stated by Bungie themselves, for the most part, exotic weapons within Destiny should feel and perform better than their lesser equivalents. Which is fair enough, an exotic auto rifle should surpass a legendary one.
However, as some guns are a little too powerful, I’ve tried to provide a balanced view based upon what I know personally works and what I’ve unfortunately fallen victim to. As a result, I have included a few legendary weapons which I feel rightly deserve their place on par with the iconic and highly sought after exotic weapons.
10. Black Hammer
A legendary weapon that stacks up against most exotics of its class. Statistically, the Black Hammer is a very good sniper rifle in its own right, however, coupled with one of the best perks in the game, White Nail, it boasts unprecedented efficiency.
As a result of White Nail, if a player is able to land three successive precision shots, the rifle will automatically refill its magazine. Thus, when you’re up against a boss in PvE, if you continuously land critical hits, you will never need to reload.
Combine that with the weapon upgrade mulligan, the Black Hammer also boasts a 5% chance to regain a missed round into the magazine, proving to be equally useful within the crucible.
9. Vision of Confluence
The scout rifle, Vision of Confluence is another legendary weapon that is outstanding in its class and easily matches up with its exotic successor, the Mida Multi Tool, in both PvP and PvE.
As a primary weapon, its solar damage perk makes it extremely valuable within solar burn enabled weekly nightfall’s, while its brilliant stability, largest class magazine and fully automatic upgrades combine to produce the best scout rifle for use in the crucible.
Although it can still currently match up to level 32 enemies, I believe the Vision of Confluence is starting to struggle against the most prominent opponents, therefore it would be nice to see the weapon receive an upgraded version, available out of the Vault of Glass.
8. Found Verdict
It would be significantly difficult to create a list of over-powered weapons without including at least one shotgun. Within PvP they are the bane of my life and more often than not, Found Verdict is typically the main weapon causing havoc.
Although ‘The Comedian’ and ‘Swordbreaker’ are impressive in their own right and ‘Invective’ boasts regenerating ammo, Found Verdict’s range and fully automatic ability makes it the ideal weapon for taking out multiple enemies in a short space of time.
Despite its uselessness within PvE, Found Verdict’s devastating ability to rack up kills in PvP has consequently earned its spot on this list.
7. Ice Breaker
The first exotic weapon to feature on this list is the Ice breaker. Its ability to regenerate ammo over time makes this gun exceptionally versatile. There is practically no situation where this gun is not useful.
As well as never needing to loot special ammo, the Ice Breaker also boasts mulligan, while its targets explode upon death. Subsequently making the weapon an essential requirement within PvE.
Regarding multiplayer, the Ice Breaker may not be the best suited option, however its snapshot characteristic and infinite ammo arguably neutralise its lesser stability.
6. Thunderlord
For the most past, Machine Guns in Destiny are generally very good weapons, they kill quickly within PvP and deal huge amounts of damage amongst PvE. Within this category, Thunderlord is potentially the best Machine Gun of its class. It holds a decent rate of fire, impressive impact stats, average reload time and stability that can both be upgraded
In a nutshell Thunderlord may not be the best weapon ever, however, its functionality makes it fairly useful in every situation.
5. Thorn
A few months ago this gun shouldn't have been considered an exotic, it was absolutely useless in every scenario. However, since it has received a long awaited weapon buff, Thorn is now one of the strongest weapons in the game. It is awesome.
Although The Last Word would probably overcome Thorn in a 1v1 situation online, Thorn boasts a larger magazine, greater range, versatility and improved handling.
Special Note: Hawkmoon would probably take Thorns place on this list but as I do not own a PlayStation I cannot comment on the exclusive content.
4. Plan C
Plan C is personally one of my favourite weapons within Destiny. As a fusion rifle, it retains a decent level of range, very good stability and overwhelming power. The ability to fire Plan C almost immediately after swapping weapons is arguably its main attribute and if used correctly, you can annihilate someone before they even have time to acknowledge what has happened.
Within PvE it is also really effective at eliminating entire swarms of enemies or removing the shield of a ‘major’ and then staggering it.
If you are a fan of fusion rifles, I highly recommend the Plan C.
3. Suros Regime
The most well-rounded exotic weapon, the Suros Regime is capable of overcoming any obstacle you throw at it. Whether you are participating in PvE or PvP, the Suros Regime simply cuts though its enemies.
As arguably the best mid to long range gun in the game, there is no surprise that the exotic auto rifle is reportedly the most popular weapon within the crucible.
2. Vex Mythoclast
Previously, the Vex Mythoclast was undoubtedly the most over-powered weapon in Destiny. Thankfully, after a series of nerfs and buffs, Bungie finally unearthed an acceptable level of capabilities for the weapon.
Nevertheless, the Vex Mythoclast is still a highly desirable weapon, with many players seeking to obtain the iconic semi automatic primary weapon fusion rifle.
1. Gjallarhorn
If you have played Destiny and you still don't know what this weapon is then you have seriously missed out. The Gjallarhorn is a rocket launcher, however, unlike your standard launcher, this exotic weapon boasts tracking rockets that hold the potential to split into smaller aggressive tracking wolfpack rounds upon detonation.
As a result, the Gjallarhorn has become increasingly popular and efficient for use against enemy bosses such as Crota. Although there are other rocket launchers that have similar tracking abilities, none of them match up to the qualities of this beast.
