The Division: Time and Weather Impacts

More information has arrived from the developers of Tom Clancy’s The Division.

In a recent blog post, it has been revealed that Tom Clancy’s The Division will feature a full range of weather conditions and a daily time cycle, which will impact the player’s in-game experience.

So what does this mean?

Senior Game Designer Fredrik Thylander said, “when in a full storm, visibility is hindered, both for NPCs and the agent. Our worst storm conditions that can hit will affect aim assist and detection ranges for both players and NPCs.”

The time of day and weather conditions won’t just alter the mood or visuals, the cycles will also affect the game’s civilians and wildlife, and the blog implies that in some extreme conditions we might not see any life at all.

During the harsh weather, players may choose to seek shelter and wait out the storms. Many buildings offer a retreat and a smooth noticeable transition of moods, as building interiors have their own unique lighting effects. Players can choose spend time more traversing in the confinement of softly lit corridors or the unforgiving nature of the outdoor environments. These environments even include a recreation of New York City’s iconic Times Square.

So much thought and detail seems to have been put into making this massive open world game, so it’s not too surprising we’ve seen some delays from Ubisoft.

The Division is finally set to release on March 8th of 2016. We can only hope there are no more delays.
