The Game Awards celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2023, and the nominees for over 30 categories have finally been announced for the ceremony that takes place on December 7, 2023, in Los Angeles. Geoff Keighley presented a live-streamed announcement on Twitter to reveal the categories and their respective nominees.
It's been a fantastic year for the gaming industry, and with so many massive titles to choose from, players and fans will have a hard time deciding on who should receive their ever-important vote. You can vote now by heading to The Game Awards' website, plus TGA's Twitter account has the full lowdown on all the nominees.
We were unsurprised to see Baldur's Gate 3 feature heavily with 8 nominations, including for the prestigious Game of the Year. A Best Performance nomination was also bestowed upon voice and motion capture artist Neil Newbon, who brought the much-loved character of vampire spawn Astarion to life.
It's his first-ever TGA nomination, which in itself is surprising since he portrayed both Karl Heisenburg in Resident Evil 8 as well as Elijah Kamski and Gavin Reed in Detroit: Become Human. However, many Twitter users have already voiced their desire for Ben Starr to take home the trophy for Best Performance, after his incredible portrayal of Clive in Final Fantasy XVI, so the jury is still out.
Both The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 featured heavily in the nominations, both for the Game of the Year and Best Game Direction, but Alan Wake II is sitting on the top spot for most nominations along with Baldur's Gate 3, with both titles receiving 8 in total.
Perhaps most surprisingly - or unsurprisingly, depending on your view - Starfield received just one nomination for Best Role Playing Game. For a Bethesda title thought to be the game of the century, let alone Game of the Year, it's quite something to see it so noticeably left out of these prestigious nominations.
You can check out all of the categories and their nominees at The Game Awards' wesbite, where you can cast your votes now. There are some fairly obvious winners - such as The Last Of Us for Best Adaption, considering how the power of Pedro Pascal alone was enough to infect the internet as quickly as cordyceps spores - and some that the public jury is still out on. We're excited to see who takes home the most gongs, and especially what title takes home the Game of the Year award for 2023.
