When is the Last Of Us 2 Remastered release date?

The Last Of Us 2 Remastered launches on January 19, 2024.

Assuming there aren't any delays, the early launch should be a great distraction during a month that's otherwise not seeing many releases. February, on the other hand, sees the release of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and Skull and Bones, among others.

Is The Last Of Us 2 Remastered a PS5 exclusive?

Yes, The Last Of Us 2 Remastered will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, at least at launch.

The first game's remake eventually made its way to PCs, but the port's quality wasn't great. To avoid another PR disaster, it's likely that Naughty Dog will keep the game on consoles for a while until it's absolutely ready to be played on PCs.

What's new in The Last Of Us 2 remastered?

The PlayStation 5 version of The Last Of Us 2 promises several bonuses that aren't present on last-gen consoles. These include:

  • Roguelike survival mode 'No Return'
  • Cut levels featuring developer commentary
  • Full DualSense integration (e.g haptic feedback)
  • New outfits
  • New weapon skins
  • Guitar free play
  • Graphical enhancements
  • New frame and logo options in photo mode
  • Speedrun mode

These can all be seen in action in the trailer below. It's likely that the new modes will add some trophies alongside the all-new PS5 version's trophy list, so completionists should be ready for action.

What is The Last Of Us 2 No Return?

No Return is a roguelike survival mode, where you're tasked with triumphing over a series of random fights. You can play as almost any character (including Joel), but gameplay is modified with each 'run' subject to different challenges.

Roguelikes are best known for their punishing yet rewarding gameplay. No Return continues this trend, as death will see you lose all your items, progress, and upgrades. It's not clear how many fights must be won before a run is 'complete', but it's sure to be a lot of fun for fans looking to master the game's combat.

The challenges we've been told about include Assault (a simple task to 'kill them all'), Capture (where supplies must be stolen from a guarded spot), Holdout (surviving against waves of infected with an AI partner), and Hunted (surviving against enemies until time runs out.) A boss fight is promised at the end of each run, with score tracked for a competitive element.

To keep runs fresh, the randomisation is joined by mods, challenges, and upgrades. From enemies dropping pipe bombs when killed to characters like Abby healing after melee hits, it seems replayability is the main appeal of No Return.

The Last Of Us 2 Remastered price

The standard edition of The Last Of Us 2 Remastered costs £44.99 / $49.99, or £10 / $10 for owners of the digital version on PS4. If you have the physical disc version, you'll need to put it in your PS5 before the discount is offered, but regardless, the discount is only active after the game launches.

There's also a more expensive WLF edition. For £99.99 / $99.99 you'll secure the game in a steelbook case, 47 Society of Champions trading cards with eight holographic variants, four enamel pins, and a Washington Liberation Front patch. Non-remastered PS4 versions of The Last Of Us 2 are still available for purchase, however, but they're unlikely to get the bonus content.
