Last Friday ‘The Race’ returned to our Twitch screens for another year, as the community teamed up to raise money for the Call of Duty Endowment, a charity dedicated to aiding Army Veterans getting back into work after their service.
‘The Race’ to Master Prestige, consisting of Twitch and YouTube superstars,Trevor “TmarTn” Martin, Tucker “Jericho” Boner, Brennon “GoldGlove” O'Neill, Shaun “Hutch” Hutchinson and “VernNotice”, commenced on Friday, November 6th, as Treyarch’s Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 launched.
Within the first day, the team managed to eclipse $25,000, the total sum raised after a full week within the previous years ‘race’ to the highest level in Call of Duty.
However, within a mere few days, the total quickly surpassed $100,000, as the donations began to emerge bigger and more frequently than ever before, thanks to an amazing community of generous viewers.
As the members of ‘The Race’ sat down for their final shift before the stream ended at a pre-arranged time of 1am GMT, TmarTn took control of ‘The Race’s’ final few hours, with the total sitting at $170,000. The next five hours saw an incredible amount of donations flow in, as Treyarch’s Studio Design Director, David Vonderhaar, joined donation duty.
With only 30 minutes until shut down, ‘The Race’ surpassed a staggering $200,000+ raised for the Call of Duty Endowment, an incredible eight times more than the total amount raised last year.
In addition to this, Activision, publishers of the Call of Duty franchise, agreed to match the total amount raised, bringing the total to an unbelievable $400,000+. However, before we forget, there was also the matter of sponsors, such as Astro Gaming, Best Buy and Elgato, who with their support brought the final total to $451,555.
Well done to all those involved, simply amazing!
