The Sims 4 has never shied away from what couples do during alone time, though fans did wish that this franchise would take things further with love. It seems that the developers have listened, as the Lovestruck expansion pass is coming soon and everyone gets to have polyamory.
Lovestruck is an upcoming expansion for the game that will add dating apps, a new urban world to explore, and more. While players will need to pay for Lovestruck, EA confirmed that polyamory will be free for everyone, so anyone who wants to experiment with their Sim’s love life can now do so.
"Free for all players is the new Romantic Boundaries system that will allow you to customize your Sim's experience with boundaries and jealousy," reads the blog post. "You can now define how your Sims approach romantic relationships in terms of physical and emotional romantic exclusivity. This allows for Sims to date multiple Sims without impact to other relationships."
Many fans have wanted polamorous options in The Sims 4, so this is a great addition to the game. The fact that it’s a free update for every player is pretty good to see, showing that EA can read its fanbase sometimes. Hopefully, these options are implemented well in The Sims 5, assuming EA is still working on that game.
Polyamory is a very complex type of relationship that requires plenty of attention and consent from the participating parties. Considering everything we know about players of The Sims, we expect these relationships to be very messy and end in death. Obviously, some players will take a polyamorous relationship seriously, while others will just drown all members of the throuple in a pool.
EA has annoyed fans of The Sims 4 with free-to-play garbage before and that probably won’t stop with this Lovestruck expansion. At the least, this expansion actually adds things that fans want from the game and we’re sure many of them will check it out when it releases on July 25.
